Our History
Our organisation’s roots go back to 2006 when our current executive director, Sylvie Aboa-Bradwell, met Dr Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem, an outstanding educator and social justice activist, at a BBC debate on the African Diaspora in London. When she passionately expressed her frustration at the lack of an innovative organisation working to improve the lives of disadvantaged people, he offered to mentor her if she could use her passion as a catalyst for the change they both longed to see. Under his mentorship, she spearheaded the creation of the Policy Centre for African Peoples (PCAP) in 2008. Although Tajudeen died, aged only 48 in a traffic accident in May 2009, Sylvie and a group of multi-ethnic supporters registered PCAP as a charity 4 months later, with the mission to enable African individuals and disadvantaged people of all ethnic origins to improve their lives through education and leadership development.
